This is a recording of a Paned a Sgwrs session with Jill Davies of CEIC
Jill Davies is a Project Manager with Circular Economy Innovation Communities (CEIC)
CEIC is a fully funded, practitioner led project for private and third sector organisations in the Cardiff Capital and Swansea Bay city regions.
The programme runs monthly workshops over a 6 month period to support businesses in Wales to develop their circular economy understanding and innovation plans to support clean growth and contribute to Welsh Government’s ‘Net Zero Wales’ ambitions. The programme will comprise of a network of like-minded people from across the region. Participating organisations will develop clean growth plans that could be eligible for Welsh Government innovation funding.
By adopting a circular economy approach the business can achieve many benefits. These include social, environmental and financial benefits alongside their legal obligations to reduce their carbon footprint. To date over 200 organisations have taken part
You can learn more about the results of CEIC’s workshop programmes by visiting the CEIC website.
The circular economy concept seeks to change how materials are treated: Moving from a linear cycle where materials are made into goods which are used and eventually discarded to one where materials are re-used and repurposed and the use of newly extracted materials is minimised.
In 2021 the Welsh Government published its strategy for a circular economy: ‘Beyond Recycling – a strategy to make the circular economy in Wales a reality’ which can be read by following this link.
The strategy aims to drive innovation in materials use, scale up the prevention of waste and re-using, investing in infrastructure, enabling community and business action and building on Wales’ recycling record.
CEIC is an important part of achieving this aim by driving innovation and creating the conditions where it can emerge and thrive.
Paned a Sgwrs sessions offer a relaxed online session where participants can learn about something interesting with someone interesting. The relaxed nature of the sessions offer an opportunity for in depth conversation and learning, as well as a chance to meet new people.
