We are delighted to announce that we have been shortlisted for two awards at the Public Finance Innovation Awards [opens in a new window]

The first nomination is in the category for ‘Achievement in Financial Reporting and Accountability’. The nomination acknowledges the innovative way we’ve presented our annual report and accounts, along with the annual plan, estimates and fee scheme reports.

The Finance Skills Development Group (which we are a part of) has also received a nomination in the ‘Finance Training and Development Initiative’ category for the ground breaking new scheme developed in partnership with organisations across the Welsh public sector. The all-Wales scheme trains and develops the next generation of finance professionals by providing secondments across public services.

The scheme sees us working closely with colleagues in NHS Wales, local government, the police, fire and rescue services, Welsh Government and sponsored bodies, higher education and further education institutions. Other public organisations based in Wales, like the DVLA and the Office for National Statistics have also been involved in the scheme.

    Auditor General, Huw Vaughan-Thomas, said:

“I am delighted to see that the Wales Audit Office has been shortlisted twice by Public Finance. We’ve worked hard to make our financial reporting fresh, clear and visually impactful. And the new approach we’re taking, with the National Assembly for Wales to support, recruit, train and retain finance professionals across the Welsh public sector is bold and collaborative. My colleagues should be well pleased that their hard work and dedication is being recognised in this way.”

The Public Finance Innovation Awards 2017 [opens in a new window] takes place on 20 April in London.
