About this job
Main responsibilities:
- ensuring the Auditor General for Wales and Wales Audit Office meet their obligations as data controllers, including by handling subject access requests and helping auditors with data protection requirements, e.g. fair processing notices
- handling FOI requests and maintaining the publication scheme
- policy and legislative development work, e.g., responding to government consultations on matters relevant to public sector audit and information governance
- helping auditors with queries about audit-related legal matters, such as audit access rights—this may sometimes involve instructing external legal advisers
- controlling issue of money from the Welsh Consolidated Fund
Key skills and experience required:
- Educated to degree level and with professional qualification, e.g. data protection qualification (BCS Data Protection Practitioner or similar), or relevant legal qualification and/or experience
- Ability to plan effectively and prioritise workload, and to work flexibly to meet competing demands
- Ability to maintain positive working relationships with internal and external colleagues at all levels, e.g., government officials, councillors, members of the public and Audit Wales staff
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, e.g., to provide clear advice
- Reliable interpretation and application of legislation and guidance
- Good judgement—ability to decide appropriate courses of action in sensitive and difficult situations
- Ability to deal effectively with data protection requirements and preferably also the requirements of legislation concerning one or more of the following: freedom of information, audit and public administration
NB: No previous experience or knowledge of control of the Welsh Consolidated Fund is expected. This work requires similar skills to those mentioned above.
Based in Cardiff but with likely flexibility to work from home for several days a week.
