The apprenticeship is a fully funded three-year programme supporting you to achieve a degree in data science while developing valuable on the job experience.
You will acquire a comprehensive range of analytical skills and experiences, whilst actively contributing to the important work of Audit Wales.
Key responsibilities:
The apprentice will work in the Data Analytics team, which is responsible for improving all aspects of the way Audit Wales uses data. Your role will see you join a fast-paced team that has close links with all areas of the business. Day to day, you will be involved in delivering these core functions:
- Lead research and development into innovative data techniques and tools.
- Build impactful data tools and embed them as a new normal part of our work.
- Drive modernisation of financial and performance audit by making it data enabled.
- Centrally manage key datasets to ensure standard data is used for decision-making.
- Work alongside audit and corporate teams to enable them to build ‘low-code’ data tools/products.
- Screen all data products before publication as an additional quality control step.
- Promote data literacy for all staff, to improve the data culture at Audit Wales.

Salary and benefits package:
- £27,601 to £33,596 per annum
- 33 days annual leave
- 35 hours working week.

Essential requirements:
- Three A-levels at a B grade or above (or equivalent qualifications), including at least one STEM subject. If you are about to sit your A levels, you can apply using your predicted grades. But any offer of employment will be conditional upon you obtaining the minimum grades set out above.
- Some programming/coding ability
- Good skills in IT, analysis and problem-solving
- Good verbal, written and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team

Closing date for applications is midnight on 18th June 2025. Following a sift of online applications, successful candidates will be invited to participate in psychometric tests. Candidates and after the psychometric tests will be invited to an assessment comprising of a presentation, interview and a technical exercise. We are planning on assessments taking place on 7th and 8th of July 2025. All assessments/interviews will be completed in person at our Cardiff office.
