Our people

While most of our staff work directly on audits, we also have staff working in areas such as Business Services, Finance, HR, Communications and IT - all of which play a vital role in the day to day running of the organisation.

Carwyn Rees - Audit Trainee

I joined in the summer of 2015 on the Graduate Trainee Programme as a Financial Auditor.

Within my first year I’ve had experience of working on local authorities, health boards and central government bodies. I’ve received great support from everyone here in all aspects of my work, exams and well-being.

After showing interest in working through the medium of Welsh, I was resourced to a client that has a number of Welsh-speaking staff. This is just one example to show that Audit Wales are able to offer and are willing to give opportunities for trainees to gain the experience they want from their training contract.

Verity Winn - Performance Auditor

I joined the Audit Wales in 2013 as a Project Performance Officer – a new development role aimed at giving candidates the skills and experience they need to become a performance auditor.

As a Project Performance Officer I had the opportunity to work across all three areas of our performance team: local government, health, and national studies. It was a fantastic chance to learn from colleagues with a broad range of experience and develop my understanding of different aspects of audit work.

The job is incredibly varied – both in terms of the type of work that I do, but also across all the subjects we explore in our national value for money work. 

The team worked with me to develop my skills through career coaching, training and providing invaluable opportunities to gain hands-on experience. I became a Performance Auditor for the national studies team in September 2014. It’s really rewarding to be involved with high profile work that really matters to the public – I’ve enjoyed every minute of it!

Sue Henry - Business Services Officer

Working in Business Services, we are right at the heart of the day-to day-running of the office and no two days are the same. 

My role covers anything from booking small conferences to researching travel details which could include flight times and hotel availability, the things that keep our staff moving. I also maintain the telecommunications network so I keep people talking too.

On a regular basis I support the organisation with internal meetings and stakeholder events - with the ‘meeting and greeting’ of clients, and taking them through house-keeping details. These events can be anything from a dozen to 60 people, all from varying types of organisations and all with different needs.
